On Friday last week, Wainwright Primary Academy supported Hello Yellow Day to raise vital funds for the charity Young Minds. The day was held just a day before World Mental Health Day and whilst it was a miserable autumnal day outside, the academy was full of sunshine as all the children and staff in the academy wore yellow with pride.
Pupils started the day with a special assembly from Mrs Hallam explaining to the children the meaning of #HelloYellow and why looking after our mental health is so important. This is a subject that leaders at the academy are passionate about, teaching children about health and wellbeing through the wellbeing Wednesday and assemblies.
In the afternoon the children designed their own yellow superhero with superpowers with a mental health theme, had the opportunity to have their photo taken in a special photo booth, and had a dance at lunchtime! Everyone was challenged to be kind by telling a joke, saying hello to an adult at school, and wave at a friend. All the children went home with a joke sheet and #HelloYellow sticker.
Thanks to fantastic support and kind donations – the academy managed to raise an impressive £224.00 for the Young Minds charity.
Remember during these difficult times to look out for friends, family and others – it’s OK to not be OK, and to talk to someone if you’re struggling.
